Question:
I was wondering if my deducitlbe would apply to next year?

I know I will and should call my insurance co.,but I won't be able to until tomorrow. I just had a sleep study done friday evening, and I imagine I will have a portion to pay, and that will go towards my $300.00 deductible. I was wondering if they (inusrance) would carry that over to next year, since it is so late in the year. I don't want to pay another $300.00 in Jan. when I will most likely be having my surgery. I remember my insurance co. from years ago doing this, especially if there were no other claims during the year that applied to the deductible.    — D. K. (posted on October 12, 2003)

I have heard of this being done in the past also, but have no idea if any company does this any more. All I can say is be thrilled if all you have to pay towards your surgery is $300 plus $300 for the sleep study. I realize it may be difficult financially, but many people have zero coverage. The only way to answer this is to call your insurance company. Good Luck!

Every insurance company is different - BUT I had BCBS and had surgery in November of that year... they carried my deductable/out of pocket from the last quarter to the next year so I didnt have to do it again.. Hope yours does - it HELPS.. but this is ONLY if this was your 'first' expense of the year - if you used it during the previous 3 quarters they DO NOT carry it over.

It depends on how your policy is written. Some plans have deductible carry over language written into the policy. If deductible is met in Oct. Nov. or Dec. it can carryover to next year. Then most plans don't do this. So call your carrier or your HR dept should no the answer. Good Luch.

Some companies will do a carry over deductible and it completely depends on your own policy. I know UHC has some that do. And I've even seen some policies where the deductible isnt on a calendar year, but on the policy year. So the deductible would 'renew' in like march or something. Silly yes, but you never know what insurance companies are thinking. LOL

Call you insurance company and ask if they have deductible carryover. For any charges that were incurred in the last 3 months of the year and that were applied to the deductible, if the company has deductible carryover, any amounts applied to the deductible in the last 3 months would carryover to the following year.

I called this morning and we do not have a carry over on the deductible. I will have to pay a $300.00 deductible for my sleep study, and then turn around and pay a $300.00 deductible for my surgery plus the $1,800.00 out of pocket. Oh well... It would be nice if I could wrap this up by the end of Dec., but I don't have my first consult until Nov. 26th and I don't see it happening. :(
