Question:
Sharp Health Care - paid for tummy tuck with hernia repair?

My surgeon's office told me I do have a hernia that should be repaired, and that I should have abdominoplasty, but that Sharp Health Care will not pay for the abdominoplasty. There must be a way to get this done. I have accepted that I will have to self-pay for the arm lift and thigh lift, but I expected they would pick up the tummy tuck. Has anyone had any luck with Sharp on this? I'm in the San Diego area and would appreciated any insight on how to proceed. Thank you all.    — Anne G. (posted on July 14, 2001)

My PCP is DR Kelly in LA Mesa, and she says that the TT IS usually covered and that they will often do the other surgeries too- . I'd document all the reasons that make it a medical problem and try to get it done. Also I have heard that the burn center at UCSD medical will do free if you donate skin. I am exploring that option too. Can't hurt to try! Good luck! Jo
