If your policy is through an employer you have to 'wait' until open enrollment - call your HR department and ask when that is and if your company even offers 'insurance' the doctor you want offers.

my insurance is not through an employer, my mom, siblings, and i have medicaid, along with community premier plus, because we have a low income, were on public assistance really. so in that case could i just switch.

You should be able to just switch. Be sure to ask you current doctor to send your medical records to your new doctor. You will probably need to authorize the release of your records by filling out a medical release form.

Folks, I believe that she is asking how to switch insurance companies, not how to switch doctors. Frankly, I think the easiest thing would be to convince your doctor of choice to switch to accepting your insurance. Admittedly, none of these choices is easy, but it's the one most likely to have the outcome you desire. Let's see: you try to get your employer to switch insurance companies when open enrollment comes along, or you insure yourself with the company of choice when their open enrollment comes, or get the doctor to switch to your current insurance. Actually, the easiest of all would be to switch your choice of doctors to one that is acceptable by your insurance carrier.

C Isbell-correct it sounds like a network issue with does your dr work in that network or not.....I work for and insurance company and i would talk to your dr and see if he is willing to join your insurance plans network, it may not be reallythat he doest take that insurance. it's just he is not in that network. the network maybe phcs, healthsmart, devon, etc..... find out if he would consider joining that network also. give him the network #.
