Question:
Hi, I am two weeks out of surgery I thought the weight would come off faster

Am I doing something wrong? I eat what I'm supposed to and still just a small amount has come off. Could I have stretched my stomach? I need help I can't get through to the Dr. Office    — campnwego (posted on November 6, 2007)

just relax and let your body do the work. sometimes it takes a while to start losing, because of many reasons, 1- your body has been through alot of trauma, 2- during surgery you are pumped full of iv fluids, DO NOT WEIGH EVERY DAY!!! Good luck and you will start losing soom enough. just chill and take care of yourself, focus on taking your vitamins and getting in the water and protein- trust me that will keep you busy. Holly

Well, first what surgery did you have and what have you lost so far? That is important info to post. Second, are you following your dieticians diet? I was still on pureed foods 2 weeks out. Make sure you are getting your protein in. Cottage cheese, regular cheese, scrambled eggs, refried beans, ect. I can't tolerate the protein shakes, but some can. Milk is really good for protein. I can't remember where I was 2 weeks out but at 4 weeks I had lost 25 lb. So, at first maybe 5-6 per week, but some may be slower or faster depending on how big you were at the time of surgery. Also, did you have a drain? I didn't and actually gained 17 lbs right after surgery. It came off really quickly since it was fluid. Just take it easy and follow the proper diet and it will come off. Good luck!!

I had RNY a week ago today. And have not lost a bit. I am still focusing on getting all of this excess AIR out of my system from the surgery. But I'm sure that once I can start walking the weight will begin to drop. I try to stay away from the scale, and focus more on measurements, they seem to have changed a bit! Keep in touch! Becky

Wow, I can't imagine not being able to get through to my doctor, they have called me twice since surgery a week ago. Anyway, I am one week out today and have lost 22lbs as of yesterday. I had my daughter hide the scale because I was weighing myself everyday. I don't know what could be going on but just letting you know there is hope, I'm sure all will be fine and keep trying to get through to your doctor.

For me it seamed to take forever. I weighed the same 1 month out. But the dr assured me that it was because of all the fluids they had to pump into me for the surgery. My surgery was Aug 13th and last week was my 3 months check up (I know a bit early) but I have officially lost, by their scales, 52 lbs since surgery and 78 lbs since I started their program. So all in all Im pretty happy with that. It is amazing how when it starts coming off, it really takes off.. Good luck and like everyone else kept telling me. "Enjoy the losing ride" :) God bless you Paula
