Hello, Well being a pre-op, I can't give you as good an answer as a post-op who has gotten pregnant, but, from all the research I've done, It's not good-but its not bad,. It does not mean you're baby will die or anything, in fact, there's many people I've seen with very healthy babies after having WLS. I'd say talk to your surgeon and your ob/gyn, and make sure you do every thing as you're supposed to. Congratulations and best of luck! Also, check out the WLS& Pregnancy messageboard...

You must be very careful. I will not tell you to not have the baby, because I could not ever abort a child. What I will say is that you need to get a high risk OB/GYN and consider all of the risks to both you and the baby. I know of several people who got pregnant early after WLS and the babies were healthy with no problems. I also know of a patient who had their entire incision open up due to the pressure of the growing pregnancy and she ended up with a wound vac and bed rest for 6 months. Don't delay in getting the very best physicians and include your WLS Surgeon in on your plan of care. Hope that helps,

Hi Janeen, First thing is first, you definitely want to advise your surgeon of your current condition as well as be seen by an OB/Gyn as soon as possible. I too am pregnant however I was about 9 months post-op at the time. However, I know several women that are on the post-op pregnancy forum that are in your same situation and are having very healthy pregnancies. You may want to post there and get to know some of them so that you can get some info from persons in your same situation. Here is the link: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/postop_pregnancy/ I hope this helps you ... and congrats

Well first of all congrats to you. I got pregnant 6 weeks after my wls in 2003. I was almost 14 weeks along when I found out. I went to my regular OB and she monitored my entire pregnancy. She did send me to a high risk OB during my pregnancy just for some ultra sounds. This was the easiest pregnancy I had. The only thing I had to do was double up on my prenantal vitamins and graze so I could get enough food in. I had lost 80lbs by the time I found out I was pregnant and didn't gain any back until I hit my 6 or 7th month. I put on a total of 22lbs and 2 weeks after giving birth was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I gave birth to a healthy 6lb 11oz baby girl who is now 21 months old and normal and healthy.

Depending upon how compliant you have been for the past 2 months, and how regularly you've been able to keep up with your vitamins, your baby might not have missed that much nutritionally. But, the first trimester is critical for basic neurological development. You need to see your OB immediately and work toward having a healthy and happy baby-- for the time being, weight loss will be secondary.

Well first off Congratulations!!! I also found out after being 4mos post op that I was pregnant in 2002. I had tried for twenty years to get pregnant and couldn't. Then had surg. and got pregnant. It also was not planned but very welcomed. My pregnancy went wonderful. Just be sure to get all the proper nutrician and exercise and you will be fine. Also I had to eat several small meals thru out each day. I think that I ate every two hours or so. My baby was born weighing 4lbs 11oz. They iduced me as they thought her abdomin was small so they were concerned that maybe she was not getting enough nutrician which really scared and concerned me, however they then found out that her abdomin wasn't to small but that they had miss fiqured my actual due date. They were off by 3weeks. So all it was, was that they took her 3weeks to early. She turned out just fine and was able to go home 3 days later. So just be sure that you take your prenatal vitamins and get all the proper nutrients and you will be just fine. Best of luck to you and May God Bless and Keep You!!
