Question:
Costco Protein Drinks

Hi All, I"ve been drinking Body Fortress since my surgery 6 weeks ago; but wondering if any of you have ever drank the protein drinks at Costco. There are 2 kinds. EAS and then there is a ready to drink one and I don't know the name. I think they are both chocolate. ARe they good? I"m to the point where I gag on Body Fortress and know I still need to drink them cause that's where most of my protein is coming from. Please respond with opinions on these two products. tks    — hatda (posted on March 14, 2008)

Not sure about those Costco products but I, too, had the same reaction to body fortress. Are you mixing it with milk? If so, try water instead. that makes it much MORE tolerable. I also love the taste of the designer whey protein powder in pomegranite. They have some other flavors and just recently, I noticed Kroger (grocery store) started carrying the vanilla. GNC carries all flavors, but the cost is outragious. Good luck, God bless and welcome to the losing side!

Dear Hay Day: I was drinking the EAS and got sick of it. I now drink New Whey Liquid Protein. It comes in a test tube and has 42 grams of protein. I mixi it w/ 16 oz water. I like the fruit punch...tastes like koolaid.

I have had the Costco Ready Made Chocolate Protein Drinks and they are very good compared to others that I have had from GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe. I have not had the powder that Costco sells, but as I said the ready made Protein Drinks are very good. Robert

I shop at Costco in S. California all the time. I have purchased the Premier Protein chololate drinks. Served cold, they taste good to me. They are great for post gastric bypass- 160 cal., 3 grms. of fat, 5 grms. of carbs., and 30 grms. of protein. Personally, I like them. Remember that eveyones tastes are different. Go to a nutrition store first and buy a couple to try first before buying the cases of them.

I never tried the ready made drinks from Costco..but the powder by EAS comes in Vanilla too which is the ONLY protein drink I have ever been able to tolerate.(lactose friendly) I drink it everyday mixed in a half cup of coffee and a half cup of soymilk for an interesting flavor! (I've also cut my coffee intake in half this way) I use the powder to sweeten my hot cereals too. Or just make fruit smoothies with. It's very good plain too!

I had the EAS premix that I by at the local store, Publix, here in florida and it is OK. I perfer Unjury from www.unjury.com. I do get tired of the same old drinks, so I tried several brands, but I went back to Unjury.

Hi, I don't know about those two but the best protien drinks I have ever tried are from Unjury (Unjury.com). They have 20 grams of protien each, come in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and chicken broth. They taste great too! I mix mine with Lactaid because of lactaid intolerance and use them everyday! Good luck finding one that works for you!

Although I'm not a WLS patient yet (hopefully) I have found this site that might help everyone drinking protein shakes. This is a pdf file. http://www.advancedobesitysurgery.com/_public/pdf/Bariatric%20Surgery%20Protein%20Drink%20Recipes.pdf If you prefer not to go directly to the pdf file. You can go to http://www.advancedobesitysurgery.com/resources.asp and look about half way down. You will see the link for the protein drink receipes.

Hello, I had my surgery on March 7th, 2008, (a little over one week ago). I have tried several protein products and the only one that I can drink is the premier chocolate protein drink from Costco. Since I am only a week out from my surgery, it takes me a while to drink it but it's delicious. I bought a case of protein Veils and I hate them. In fact if anyone wants them, just pay the postage and I will gladly send them to you. Horrible tasting. I know some people prefer to drink the quick viles but I prefer the slow sipping pre-made shake from Costco. Good Luck. Yolanda (Southern CA)

Hi, I use the EAS protein drinks and I like them very much! I purchase the 4 pack at Walmart for about $5.77. They come in chocolate, strawberry, or french vanilla. I truly like them all. I make sure they're very cold....as I think they taste best that way. I usually shake it up very well then use a point (I use a ball point pen tip) to poke a hole for straw insertion. I usually poke a smaller hole somewhere in the top to allow for a little air flow for drinking ease. Try them....at least if you don't like them you'll have only purchased 4 instead of a larger quantity. Chocolate is my favorite (mostly because it tastes so much like chocolate milk), but the other flavors are good too. Good luck!

It is amazing that everyone has such different tastes. I bought the pre-made ones at Costco- I could not choke them down. I tried to freeze them to see if that might work. I ended up donating the rest to the surgery center. Good Luck!

I couldn't drink the ones from Costco but my Surgeon recommended one by Worldwide, 35 gms. protein, 1gm. sugar. 170 calories. Several flavors. I am 2 1/2 months out and I still drink one a day. 56 lbs lost. Good luck!!!!!

To the gal who stores her protein drink in frig, and others, one is not supposed to store protein drink overnight in frig. It loses its effectiveness. I think it is supposed to be drank within a couple of hours the most after being mixed.

Yes, not only do they lose their effectiveness when stored, but it grows bacteria...as there are no preservatives to prevent that. A protein shake should be consumed within 20 minutes of it being mixed. Regards~
