Question:
Skoal dipping

I am having surgery on Sept. 14, 2001, Lap RNY. When I fish or hunt, I am very hooked on Skoal wintergreen. Has anyone ( most likely guys ) been able to continue dipping or does it make you really sick. I think I would miss this more than food. Michael    — MICHAEL Z. (posted on August 28, 2001)

A very interesting question. I, myself am hooked on kodiak. I will be watching and hoping for an answer to this post. Maybe even luck out with a medical opinion.

Since a friend died of cancer of the mouth from that I dont recommend it. After having surgery to improve your health, why risk it this way?

I have been dipping Kodiak for 17 years. I had my Lap RNY on 2/18/03. I had my last dip on the way to the surgrey. Its been very easy to stop afterwards. I get the mental "Want" but it goes away fast. Eric

I would definitely like to hear an answer on this one. I have been told most Dr.'s require their patients to stop any tobacco activity prior to surgery. I had my last dip @ 7pm the day before surgery. I am not 1 week post op and haven't touched the stuff. I have a feeling I am ready to quit, but if I weren't, are there any "additional" side effects to dipping after Gastric Bypass? Thanks.

Yes, there are additional side effects guys. A big one is this -- you are going to be looking real fine after your weight loss. You'll be a major chick magnet. Speaking as a chick, it detracts from your appeal greatly if you chew or dip. We love a man with a clean healthy mouth. ;) Also, stating the obvious here, you're going through this surgery to be healthier. I quit smoking 3 months before surgery and refuse to go down tobacco road again. If I can do it, so can you! OK, now send me all your beefcake photos when you hit goal.
