Question:
Loose skin
I am 2 weeks pre-op, and I have a large stomach that hands down (apron or panus I believe they call it). At my pre-op consult my doctor told me that by the time I am done losing my weight my skin will be hanging down to my knees! I know I realized that, but now I am wondering what that will mean for exercising and moving around and what clothes I can wear until I can have that excess skin removed! Is there anyone out there that has had a similar situation? Is there a way to "contain" the excess skin so that it isn't as noticeable to others? I am starting to freak a little. — Wendy M. Hi Wendy,
I recently watched a program on television where the surgeon performing the
procedure also removed excess skin from the patient at the same time as the
WLS. It was performed so that she wouldn't have to deal with a tremendous
amount of excess skin while losing the weight. The program was Secret
Lives of Women on Lifetime network. I haven't researched this at all - but
perhaps it's worth exploring since you still have a couple of weeks before
your surgery.

Until I could afford my tummy tuck, I wore Spanx Power Panties. They are
great. A little pricey but definately worth it!

Spanx can be bought at Target under the name Assets, they are about half
the price as Spanx. The same lady who invented Spankx has partnered up
with Target.

Attention: if you are of the "male" persuasion, you probablydo
not need to be reading this.... :O)
I personally do not plan on a tummy tuck or other plastic surgery for
financial reasons and because I simply do not want to go through it (the
surgery). I bought a "body girdle" on eBay and LOVE it,
seriously.... I found one that is comfy and allows me to wear my own bra,
but controls everything from "back-fat" to the tummy and
everything in between. It unsnaps at the crotch for potty-time.

I have a bit of an apron, and I plan on using a body girdle to not only
keep the laps and flaps from flopping around, but also to support my back
while I strengthen my muscles that frankly I have not been using very much
over the many years that I have shut down and turned into a slug so to
speak. But I digress......
I am interested in these Spanx Panties, and their counterpart Assets at
Target (I will be checking those out later today in fact so thanks guys!)
But panties does not sound like it would hold something that will be down
to the knees..........
I get my surgery on Sept 8th. Keep in touch, okay?

By the way, eBay has a brand called Vedette. It comes in many, many styles
and has everything from panties to body girdles to full body girdles
complete with legs below the knees and even sleeves!!!

I am 62 and had loose skin before surgery so I was planning on a lot.
Excersice has reduced my 3" scar on the left to about 3/4" and
the others are just dots. I also found that a company that provides
spandex undergarments has had several that help me as I was losing and I
still use them today. go look at www.underworks.com. there is a 800
number there and they are very helpful if you call and they seem to be very
knowledgable on bariatrics. Best of success to you.

There are many websites that carry the kind of garment I use. Type in
"compression garments" and you can find a lot of these things.
