Question:
what's up with craving pickles?

I am almost five days out and on this past sunday I started craving pickles bad, and then my husband bought me some and it passed I only had one and i chewed it up and spit it just wanted the flavoring. then I get real thristy and can't drink that much. Hi,I craved pickle juice about 10 days after GBS, I was going thru the window of misery, I could not do anything, sugar free or even water. Everything tasted sweet! It was so horrible!All I could drink was some thing sour, I drunk pure lemon juice also, I finally got over that, but I got a kidney infection during that time, because I didn' drink enough water or fluids. Hang in there it will get better! Try to drink,force your self to if you have too! I still have some trouble with somesugar free things, they taste to sweet. Good Luck!

I'm not sure. But I was the same way! I hear a lot of folks crave them. I'm just guessing here, but maybe it has something to do with the salt content. I think that, maybe, our cravings are our bodies way of letting us know of some nutrient it needs. I'm no doc or nutritionist...but that is my best guess.

Its your body craving the salt. My Dr. tells me to eat a pickel a day. You cant get enough sodium after surgery (this is gastric bypass)so he encourages us to eat a pickel. It will also help with if you ever feel light headed when you stand up. Its weird, I know, but it really works. Good thing I like pickels hu? lol Good luck on your journey.

Pickles are great for tightening the skin. Just make sure you are cleared for having them first. I heard this fact at a support group one week post op. I drank a couple of ounces of pickle juice every couple of days a few weeks out of surgery. Now I have a couple of pickle slices a week. I haven't had a bad problem with sagging skin and I think its thanks to pickle juice/pickles and some good arm exercises . I am a true believer that your body craves what it needs... but you really need to be in tune and listen... Junk food isn't what it needs!!! All in moderation! If your body is saying have a pickle start with a couple of ounces of juice and go from there. Proud loser of 103 pound of pure fat since September 2, 2008!!!
