Question:
4yrs since RNY and gaining weight BIG TIME!!! HELP!

I had my RNY in 8/02 and went from 278lbs to 163lbs at my lowest. At that point, I was suffering from kidney stones (due to high doses of protein) and was forced to go off my "diet" and introduce carbs and stuff. No biggie for awhile, I maintained a size 12 and felt pretty good, but still not as thin as I hoped to be. I have been working at a new job for the past 2 years, and have packed on 35 pounds! I am approaching 200lbs again, and am killing myself trying to squeeze myself into a size 14, really should be a 16/18. I nee help, but I am afraid of the whole "protein world" again... I'd rather give birth to a 45pound infant than pass one of those stones again! Any advice? Smiles, Allana    — nailsbyallana (posted on January 6, 2007)

Was your stone confirmed as protein? Usually our stones are oxalate, which is due to not enough of the right calcium, too much of the wrong kind (Tums, Viactiv, carbonate forms) and not enough water. Was that protein supplement or protein food? You might want to look at the Grad list and see what others long term are doing to get the regain back off again. There is a lot of combined long term experience on this list and I'd recommend it in conjunction with this site and any local lists you use. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG

Do you still have your Gall Bladder where there Stones Form? Now adays most Surgeon's are pulling the Gall Bladder out during Gastric Bypass just for the fact of ridding the chance for the stones to happem.

I had the same problem you did, got those lousy stones and had to intruduce carbs back into my life earlier than I was supposed too, then the pounds stopped coming off, after that I tried to keep my carb intake low and eat lots of chicken which is working right now but my main problem is that I dont have a good support system at home, do you? My husband has no problem with his weight and thinks being overweight is something I should be able to master with no problems and not to mention that he works so much that I find myself eating out more and more but enough about me, hang in there and keep trying....hey if you want to chat you can email me at [email protected]
