Question:
Any recommendations for best tasting and tolerated protein drinks?

I'm having surgery in 10 days and want to get all the stuff I'm going to need in the house beforehand...any suggestions would be appreciated!    — CTBeautifulSoul (posted on January 9, 2010)

I used to just love my myoplex but since then I have been introduced to 2 fantastic protein powders....Unjury has the BEST unflavored protein powder to mix it with other softer foods/soups/coffee or tea etc. You just need to keep these foods at 130 degrees. I use this in my coofee or tea, both decaf, and it gives them a protein boost (20 grams). The other is Chike which has the most AMAZING banana and orange cream powders. All of their flavors are great but these really stand out. I mix them all with skim milk instead of the suggested water....The best part of both of these is there is no chalky/powdery aftertaste..... Good luck.....

I agree with the recommendations here. I also like Muscle Milk which you can buy at Hannaford Supermarkets, 25 grams of protein and $13.00 a tub.

I had a problem with protein shakes, I am too fussy, but Maximum Protein from GNC and Unjury from the Internet are excellent shakes.

well, my favorite was Prodiet(bought it at drs office) and you mix it with a bottle of water, they have all kinds of flavors but my fav. was kiwe melon and i drank it for 4 weeks, 4 bottles a day, couldnt do the powder protein, made me gag, and I still have a bottle every once in awhile, i also use it in my smoothies in the summer. Good Luck.

I am VERY fussy! So far my very favorite is Unjury chocolate. I don't care for the strawberry sorbet (trying to choke one down now). I do not care for any of the Chike flavors. Got samples of them all and they are too thick and bland for me. I've heard great things about GNC Max Protein, which I will try next. I also like the protein shots from Walmart. They are like a strong fruit punch flavor. Something different. They are like $18 for 10 of them. It seems that everybody has different tastes, so you'll kind of have to try each one yourself. Keep in mind too that your taste buds change after surgery. I am almost 3 wks out from rny and mine are changing on a day-to-day basis! I hope this helps and best of luck to you.

EAS Myloplex makes a 42gm that is good in dark chocolate. I have only been able to find it a Kroger grocery and Sam's Club.

I use Designer Whey in french vanilla. When I mix them up, I use one scoop of mix, three ice cubes, 3oz. of water, and I add one sugar free drink pack mix - the kind you add to a bottle of water. I like the 4C fruit punch. It ends up tasting like a fruit smoothie - the ice gives it froth, and the fruit punch gives it a great berry flavor!

I have been using protein bullets. Profect is the brand and one bullet has 50 mg so I take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening. They taste awful and are thick like syrup but I can manage to shoot it all at once and then I chase it with some water or crystal light. It has been the easiest way to get my protein in. The website for them are www.protica.com

My favorites are Healthwise products. And if you love chocolate, Go-tein makes a chocolate flavored drink that's really good. I don't care for Unjury too much. I think I can taste it. Sounds weird, I know, but it's just knowin' it's in there. Another goodie is Light Muscle Milk. It has 15 g protein and only 100 calories.

Please be aware that for a lot of people, nothing will taste (or smell) quite the same for a few weeks or so after your surgery. A couple of things that I have found that helps eliminate or ease the protein taste is to add some peanut butter or a cored Granny Smith apple to your protein shake. All programs are different, though, so it would depend on how long you have to wait to add those types of things to your diets. Good luck!

I have always used Muscle Gauge Nutrition products. They have very low lactose products (im not sure if other companies offer the same) and it doesnt upset my belly nearly as much as other stuff I have tried. They also have flavors like Ice Cream Sandwich and Chocolate Carmel that I love so it doesnt get boring.
