Question:
Weight loss

I had surgery on 7/7/09 and have lost a total of 43lbs. My question is, is there anyone out there who has lost at least a total of 160 or more. When I read other post some people have lost a lot more weight then I have in the beginning. I need to loose at least 180lbs to be at my ideal goal weight goal for me. I'm feeling kind of depressed and thinking that this will never happen.    — DonnaRo (posted on August 29, 2009)

Congrats on your weight loss. You are just in the beginning stages of your weight loss.. I have lost a total of 220 pounds (including pre surgery diet loss, 36 pounds). You will do fine. I know that you have all of these concerns about your weight loss. It will happen, just be patient and do what your doctor says. You will have times where you won't lose weight. But just remember, its only temporary and your body will lose the weight. IT has been 16 months since my surgery and I am still losing a little. I had the same concerns as you....Good luck and as long as you listen to your doctor and do what he says. Things will be just fine.. Good luck to you and enjoy this transformation you are just starting...

GREAT WORK! We all lose at a different rate. I had RNY 7/1/08...I have lost 130lbs sooo far. I hit a stop a few times...it seems at that time I stop losing weight I lose inches. Then I start to lose the weight again. Eat as you are told to and all will be fine. I am just now being able to eat normal food. We didnt put it on over night and it is best to come off slow and steady. Best of luck with the new you!

I have lost just over 163 lbs in my first year. Looking back, I lost somewhere around 40 lbs in the first 6-8 weeks. You are doing great. Keep following the rules including getting out and exercising!

Hi There. I had VSG in June of 2008. I have lost a total of 85 pounds almost at my goal weight. The weight loss will seem slow to you. I hit several stalls along the way and you will too. We all do. It takes time for your body to adjust to this new way of eating. It's like your body goes into shock. Don't despair and get discouraged. The way I handled it, I stopped weighing myself all the time. I set my mind that this was not a diet. I made a firm decision to eat healthy for the rest of my life. If you follow your doctor's advice, eat healthy every day, your body will fall into line and the weight has no choice but to come down. Of course it doesn't come down as fast as we want it to. But, it will come down. There were times I went for 2 or 3 weeks without losing anything...but then suddenly the weight loss would kick in again. Just keep your eyes on your goal. You will make it with great success. God Bless!

My surgery was over 5 years ago. I lost 40 lbs the first month, and then around 25 a month after that. I have lost over 210 lbs, and have kept most of it off. But, I work at it. Set small goals for yourself, and treat yourself. When I lost 50 lbs, I had a manicure and pedicure. When I lost 100 lbs, an ankle bracelet. Start working out as soon as you can, it will help, and tone your skin. Don't be so hard on yourself, it didn't get there overnight, and it's not going to go away overnight. :) Pat yourself on the back!!!!

Hello! I lost over 200 pounds. My surgery (lap RNY) was in September of 2006. I lost most of the weight within the first year (175 pounds of it) and the balance by 15 months out. Follow your program and keep up the exercise and you will be successful. Don't worry about how much everyone else looses and at what rate. Each of us are individuals and our bodies react differently. But if you follow the program - protein, fluids, vitamins, and exercise - you too will have great success! Hugs!

People lose weight at a different rate. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and I averaged 6.25 lbs per week. I can't remember if the more you have to lose the faster it will come off, or the slower it will come off. Maybe some of the other posts can clarify this. Be patient though, you didn't put the weight on overnight and it isn't going to come off overnight, although it does feel like it. best wishes to you.
