Question:
CAN YOU HAVE A TT WHILE HAVING YOUR C-SECTION??

MY FRIEND IS PREGNATE AND SHE WANTS A TT AND SOMEONE TOLD HER THAT YOU COULD HAVE A TT AT THE SAME TIME AS YOUR C-SECTION. IS THAT TRUE?? I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. EXPECAILLY DOING SOMETHING LIKE THAT RIGHT AFTER YOU HAVE GIVIN BIRTH...... I JUST THOUGHT I'D ASK FOR HER TO SEE WHAT YOU GUYS THOUGHT OF THAT. THANKS    — DBXX (posted on May 12, 2004)

I can't believe any good ps would touch a patient as long as they have a certain amount to loose. My ps won't touch you unless your at goal with your weight. No one will be at a goal weight at time of birth. It would be a shame to have a TT at that time and then loose 20+ pounds and have hanging skin. Besides I doubt if insurance would have it this way too.

Not possible. You can have your tubes tied at the same time as a c-section but a TT is generally done when your weight is stable--- WLS or not, your weight is not stable when you've just given birth.

I dont now if its possible; she could ask her ob.. BUT I have had a TT and I have had a baby (not at the same time) and there would be NO WAY I would have wanted a TT just after having my baby. She would be misrable, and unable to take care of the baby. You have drains, and alot of discomfort right after the TT. I would tell her to 'enjoy' her birth; and besure she wasnt planning any more babies AFTER this one... then go for the TT later.

My best friend is a Labor and delivery nurse and she says that this happens all the time, but mostly with famous people (stars), they insist on having a PS in the OR at the time of delivery. So yes it can be done. That is how so many stars have babies and then look wonderful right after.

I know a woman (not a WLS patient) who had a TT when she had her last child. She also had her tubes tied at the same time. A 3-for-1!! So yes, it can be done.

I work in a birth center and YES you can have a tummy tuck with a c-section, yes yes yes. It doesn't happen too often in my facility but it absolutely does happen. these are not movie stars either. as far as being at goal, that may be the recommendation with us wls people but I hate to tell - you fat people have tummy tucks when they are not near to ideal weights. They decide they aren't gong to lose it and have the tummy tuck to look their best. People also get TT with hysterectomies.

CAN you do it, yes. SHOULD you do it, NO. Most women go on to lose weight (their "baby fat") after surgery, which may be 10- 30 lbs. This would result in some loosening of the skin after a TT. I have been asked by a few patients to do this, and when I explain the 3 week recovery time, the discomfort, girdle that must be worn 24/7 for a month, drains that stay in for 2-14 days, antibiotic and pain pills that could be passed into breast milk, and a few other issues, most patients see the point and decide to get it done later.
