Question:
I am 6 weeks post-op and concerned that I lost 16lbs the first 2 1/2 weeks then

nothing. I am exercising, drinking my water, taking my vitamins, and and following the diet yet I haven't lost any more weight. I am discouraged because I feel like the surgery isn't working for me. PLEASE HELP!!!    — hartnell (posted on May 21, 2006)

well congrats on WLS. you have not stated how much u are eating?? If you have surgery, and are following everything the way u should be u have to lose weight. It is impossible not to. right now u should be eatingh approx. 6-8 teaspoons of food per meal give or take.

Your body is going through ahuge adjustment period right now and is trying to function with the drastic reduction of calories and fluids compared to before surgery. You will have times where you will lose fast and steady, and then there will be weeks where you will not lose anything. During that time your body is balancing its functions. Do not worry because you will lose again soon. For now use this time to keep doing what you are doing. You are doing a great job! Shelly

I don't have an answer to your question, just a thank you for posting it...I am in the exact same boat, I had surgery April 11 and lost 30 pds in the first 2 weeks and since then nothing!!! I have been bawling all morning at what a failure I am for not being able to lose anymore!! I am glad to see that I am not alone...and from the responses that you have gotten that there is hope for us!!! Thanks again Tracy!! Feel free to get back to me, maybe we can support each other! ~The truth of the matter is we all lose our weight @ a different pace...there is noone to compare yourself to; you are losing although slow it will begin to start coming off again soon. It may come off fast when it starts up again or it may remain slow and steady. I had surgery 4/5 and lost 23 lbs the first 2 weeks...since then in 4.5 weeks i have only lost another 12 lbs (i am almost 2 months post-op) w/ a 35 lb weightloss total, i consider myself a slow loser as well, but i continue to drink as much water as possible, take my vitamins, walk 1-2 miles per day,and eat as much protein as possible.consider this, the slower you lose your weight the more time your body will have to adjust to the loss including your skins elasticity...as long as you are not gaining you are winning the dreaded fight~even at a slow weightloss pace.don't beat yourself up over it !! and whatever you do "DON'T" step on the scale every day :) this will really get you down, i know i have been there. Good luck on your journey / your sure to be a skinney thing soon...LOL (SMILES)
