Question:
Stage 2 - suggestions

Hi, I am about 5 days postop and have been home for 2 days. I am trying different things... strained cream soups, SF/FF puddings made with Lactaid milk, protein canned shakes, cream of wheat, - all with "AnyWhey" added for extra protein. Since I another week possibly up to 3 weeks on the stage 2 diet..... does anyone have any yummy recipes for things that actually have some substance to them? ... I would appreciate any suggestions that you may have...thanks .....    — Kari_K (posted on November 4, 2006)

I call this stage the experimenting stage...I did things with foods I would never have done before this surgery. I would take some strawberries, milk and protein shake mix....blend them together with a few ice cubes and have a milk shake. I also used chocolate protein, banana and peanut butter. That is one of my favorites. You can do mashed pototoes and cheddar cheese melted in them. Apple sauce, flax seed (grounded) and cottage cheese. Refried beans, cheese and salsa. The only thing I didn't like when I mixed things up was cream of wheat and peanut butter....YUCK ....Double YUCK.

Refreid beans & cheese adda little water to them to make them thinner. Scambled eggs & cheese. Try & stay away from canned Protein drinks, Too much sugar in them. Use Whey protein only. It is the best for us & best tasting. You can get Walmart's brand at about 12.00 a can. It gets better!! You are on your way. Don't give up.

I was afraid to eat apple sauce because it is so high in sugar... do you not dump from it? I have stuck to eggs and add cheese to them, egg salad, sugar free pudding, Sylvester Stalone high protein pudding (GNC), sugar free jello, soup & baked potatoe with cheese. Thats about all I have had. But I have not lost 1 pound in the 2 weeks of stage 2 and been having so much pain and feel like the food gets stuck going down.

It's strange how different Drs have such vastly diffferent protocols. I was on Clear Liquids forthe first two weeks post op. What you are eating now was my 3rd week start.

The pouch is still "healing" so that's why we can't have too much the first week. I start milk on day 5, no protein powder yet either. I can have a few spoons of yogurt, watery cream of wheat and carnation instant breakfast, half a packet with 4 oz of milk. I can't wait to have mashed potatoes...I will add the unflavored whey protein to them!
