Question:
AM I losing too much, too fast?

Hello. I was wondering, I am about 3 and a half months out of open rny and have lost 84 pounds, thus far. Is this too much, too fast? I have been taking my vitamins and protien shakes daily, and get at least three meals in a day, I'm just not sure if I should be losing this fast. I am happy with the loss, but curious as to whether I should be concerned. I go see the Doc at the end of this month. Thanks for all your support thus far, and thanks in advance for any answers!!    — cdpaige (posted on June 17, 2006)

I checked out your profile and saw your starting weight. From what I have seen and heard.. the more you have to lose the faster it will come off in the begining... But at the same time everyone is different too! It sounds like you are doing everthing right to me! But I am not your dr! I am 10 weeks out and have lost 66 pounds of which 53 was after surgery great job on the weight loss! Keep up the great work!

Crystal: I will be 10 weeks post op this Monday and have lost 70 pounds, or about a pound a day. Given that ratio, I will be at 84 pounds in 12 weeks or 3 months. I had a post op visit with my surgeon yesterday and he said I was doing great, no problem with the amount of weight I've lost. I should think that you are doing great too, not too much, as long as you feel good. Good luck and be well.

I am around your starting weight right now. I'm at 408 down from 430 and I'm still pre-op. But I know from what I've read and been told that people our size will lose really quickly at first. I plan to have at least 100 pounds of my first 6 months and if I'm lucky like some I have seen, I will have off 130 or so. So you're right on track and must be doing well. I'm very happy for you! Keep up the good work. (smile)

You are doing GREAT!!!! I had my open May 03 and I have dropped 50lbs so far. Just like you I had a very high starting weight(397)...I was told that people with higher weights burn calories faster. Be happy be healthy!!!

That's great! Don't worry about it, your body will get to a point and it will stop for awhile. Then you will start to lose again. My partner goes through this from time to toime. She will loose then she will stop. I believe a lot of people who have had the surgey goes through this. I'll find out in a few months, I got next, as they say in basketball.
