Question:
Has anyone been approved for Plastic surgery with UHC POS

I am looking for a surgeon who takes UHC POS with a real good success rate at getting a tummy tuck and breast lift approved if I don't have a large apron. I know that some Dr.'s write it up as other things any help would be appreciated    — Jenny W. (posted on July 1, 2003)

I was approved with UHC POS for TT and breast lift. I had implants also but paid for them myself. Two important things to investigate are: 1) exclusions on your policy, and 2) surgeons listed in your plan. Insurance plans vary widely because often the employer is actually the one who determines what will be covered and not covered in a certain policy. So you need to find out if there are exclusions for RECONSTRUCTIVE (not plastic or cosmetic) surgery on your policy. If there aren't, then you need to look at the doctor's list and find some approved surgeons there. That is the place to start. It's not a good idea to ask a surgeon to submit for one procedure and then do something else; that's called fraud and it can get them (and you)dropped by the insurance company. My surgeon said some policies use the terms panniculectomy (apron removal) and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) interchangeably. In my case, they approved a "panniculectomy with muscle repair" which is really an abdominoplasty. Maybe that's the kind of thing you were thinking about. Good luck.
