Question:
Can anyone recomment a medical school for plastic surgery in the Houston Area ?

I will be having some plastics done thru insurance but will have to pay out of pocket on arms and thighs and lipo. Thinking of checking into the Houston Area for good medical schools to check out prices. Anyone know the contact info for that area? I have info for Dallas. I live between the two and would like to compare them. Thanks!    — WLS_Deb (posted on April 17, 2004)

Do they do it that way? I don't think it's like dental school. I thought they had to have to assist on surgeries for 7 years or so then graduate onto real surgery?

It will be senior residents that will perform surgery under the supervision and guidelines of the teaching staff (many of whom have a lot of experience). Senior residents will have 4-5 years of performing Gen Surgery and then another couple of years of performing reconscructive and aesthetic surgery. <p> They don't let first years so these kind of surgeries!

Hi. I trained at and taught full-time for 2 years at UT Medical School in Houston. Cases are done by residents supervised by staff. Followup varies, but is usually the same arrangement. The resident who did your surgery may rotate and be replaced every 2 months or so by a new one. As in any specialized surgery like this, it's important that the supervising doc have a "dedicated interest" in the area.
