Question:
Is it my breast causing the shoulder and upper back pain

I'm two months post-op, I've lost 70 pounds. My breast are not getting smaller. I wear a 42DDD still. My upper back and shoulders are killing me. I went to the doctor today and he gave me a muscle relaxer and anti inflamitory medicine. I can't take this pain anymore. Has anyone had to have breast reduction done after having Open RNY. If you don't think it's from my breast and have experienced the same pain can you please tell me what it is then.    — Melissa S. (posted on February 14, 2002)

A friend of mine is in the same situation. She's not obese, so tough luck. Insurance has denied her, so she did some research. First, you have to have had 10 months of constant physician supervised therapy. She went to a chiropractor who straightened her out, tugged and pulled and ...YES it felt better. For a few weeks that is. She had to keep going back for pain medication and therapy, and now he is recommending her for surgery based on several attempts with medication, exercise, and therapy. He suspects it will go well. It's still being reviewed. Good luck.

It sounds like it could be from your breasts. You need to find out what your insurance has to say about breast reduction. I think many will cover it when it is causing other problems, which it sounds like it is for you.
