Question:
what are restaurant cards

Your doctor can give you one. It explains to the restuarant employees and owners that you have had WLS and that you can no longer eat as much food. Most restaurants will allow you to have childrens portions or order off the seniors menus.........I used mine for the first couple of weeks but then decided it wasn't worth the effort so I just take what is left from my order home and eat it later or I just eat off my husbands plate.

I never used the restaurant cards and I am almost 22 months post. Early post op, I would share an entree with someone. Now, I can eat an appetizer for my meal. If I order a regular meal with the salad, 2 veggies, larger portion entree, it is way too much for me so I'll take the leftovers home. A lot of people don't have luck with restaurants accomodating them. My personal opinion is why should they? I didn't get charged more when I went to a buffet pre-op and could eat a lot, why should I expect them to give me a discount now?

I never used my card from my doctor's office. My husband and I are both PO open RNY and we just bring the left overs home to have for lunch the few days after we eat out. Some people use the card to eat off of the children's menu but most of that is pure cr_p and is mostly fried, something I avoid. Recently my DH and I were on a cruise on Holland America and they offered 1/2 portions from the menu. It was great, I wish more restaurants would do that. So, you really do not have to waste the large portions, just doggy bag it.
