Question:
Pubic area

Hello, I had surgeru on July 20, 2001. I have lost 101 pounds and just had my TT done on July 30th of this year. I wanted to know if my pubic area will ever shrink? I now have a flat tummy and a bulge of flabby fat on my pubic area. Now I wish I would have asked him to pull that part up during the TT. Will it ever go away? I feel so embarrassed all of the time. Anyone else have this problem?    — Dawn H. (posted on August 13, 2002)

Mine is huge there too. It looks extremely bad. And mine is all mis shappened too. (Because of having a cathiter there and into my bladder for almost nine months). It seems to be getting worse as I keep losing. The fat never leaves that spot.

Oh yes! I am just lookining into abdominoplasty and I'm going to make sure they do something about this area since they are going to be working right next door. There are places you can get financing for plastic surgery and it is something that can be done. Heck, they might even be able to do it out patient and under local anesthesia (aka. won't cost as much) Go have a consult with a plastic surgeon and see what it would involve and how much it would cost. That way you'll be informed and not just dismayed. We're all in this together, so share any info you get! Ciao!

Shame on your plastic surgeon for not doing that area at the same time! I had exactly the same problem: my pubic area looked like the snout of a bull walrus and my plastic surgeon tightened it up very nicely. My vaginal area now looks quite normal, (well, except for the incisional wounds secondary to the thighplasty that are healing up slowly but surely!) I suggest you ask him how much it would cost for a "scar revision" that would include pulling up the area.

I am working an appeal to get a panniculectomy done. I have lost 150+ although I still weigh 340 or so pounds. When I finally get approved, I intend to beg my surgeon to tighten up that area. I saw it in the mirror the other day and I was totally grossed out! I hope he will do it...And you should really see about getting that done. I mean...we can tighten our tummies, our arms...but our pubic area???

No, unfortunately that area doesn't get smaller or go away. I had my tummy tuck on Wednesday and he pulled it up some so it looks a little better. However, he told me I would be an excellent candidate to get this area reconstructed. Basically, they take the excess area and fold it over to get rid of all the fat. He told me he didn't want to do it with this surgery since I was having my arms liposuctioned with the tummy tuck. He wanted to wait until the tummy tuck healed before he would do it. I'm having the second part of my arm surgery in November or December to cut off the excess arm skin and he told me he could do it at that time and it would only take about 40 minutes and cost me about $1000. I'm still considering if I want to have it done since I'm having my tubes tied at the same time. I want to get a better idea of what it's going to look like after the surgery so I want to see some pictures. I don't want to have an area that looks like a side show in the circus!!

I have the same problem I had my tummy tuck in Feb and now my pubic area looks like a "Scrotum without the penis" my husbands exact words. I am going to have to have another surgery for a hernia repair and I am going to ask the surgeon to do something there I really doubt that he will he is not a plastic surgeon and the surgeon that did my tummy tuck is no longer in practice. Good luck to you.

Susan I've been laughing for days! You've hit the nail on the head. That's what mine look like too. Actually that is what the inside of my thighs look like too. Funny, yet not so funny.

This was posted a few months back, and I committed it to memory because some got it done properly, according to my standards, and some were surprised with what wasn't done. Someone directed that we be sure to discuss this with the doctor to make sure it is part of "the package". She said that it is called a "muff tuck". Laughed my butt off for days on that one.

I understand, too. I had my TT about 4 months ago. Sounds like mine isn't as bad as some, but it is definitely more "mounded" than I would like. When I wear tight skirts, that area is the one which stands out the fullest from the side. When I asked my WLS(not the PS- I thought I would get an more objective answer this way) about it & if this was normal he said it's a very common result. He said the PS has to be very careful in pulling up that area, that it's easy to interfere with the normal structures & function and can cause sexual problems & dysfunctions. He said sometimes it's better to leave it a little "puffier" and not risk creating possible problems, he specifically mentioned pulling the clitoris out of position. Now, this is just what I was told, but that was when I decided I could live with it just fine rather than take a risk...
