Question:
Can any tell me, what are the signs of ketosis?

Hello, im 5 1/2 months post-op -66 1/2lbs, i wanted to start losing my weight faster, and i met the most nicest women on yahoo group for wls surgery and we also had the same Dr perform our sugeries, anyway, she told me for 1 week, starting only eat food with high protein nothing else. She also said i was eating to many carbs, and she was right. I would go on fitday.com and my carbs for one day was like 100gr or more, so i started tuesday with protein only, just meat, cheese that is the only thing i can eat that does not have alot of carbs, plus she said for the week don't add nothing salad etc...so needless to say i have been doing great, but my question is. Ketosis, im having the bad taste in my mouth and when i burp it is a God awful taste, is that a sign of ketosis? and does that mean im losing weight again? I remember this taste in the early months of the surgery, so i hope that is what it means. Can anyone give me some more type of high protein food to add come next week? I surprised myself this week so far YA FOR ME LOL LOL....and im going to continue, but i tell u carbs are a hard thing eliminate, but your will do be a success weight lose patient is more powerful. Thank you ladies and gents. 260/194.5/160    — sexysag37 (posted on August 15, 2003)

Rita, I got Ketosis strips from my local CVS. You pee on them when you go to the bathroom and it changes colors to tell you if your in ketosis or not. I find it VERY helpful! Good luck!

The first signs of being in ketosis is bad breath and a very dry mouth. For best results, please check your urine ketones. You want to be in the pink or light purple range. If you get to the deep purple, that is too far into ketosis where it can start to do some damage to kidneys and to your heart. So if that happens, simply add some carbs to your diet to lower your ketone level. Physical symptoms of being too high, is headaches and fatigue. Hope this helps!

And to think there were actually postings on here saying ketosis was GOOD! We need to be very cautious with the 'expert' advice we get from here. Remember these are opinions of regular ol' folks. Most of us are not professionals and should not be spewing forth with advice that has not been authenticated. Stick close to the real professional...your doctor/surgeon.
