I have United Healthcare, and had absolutely no problems what so ever. As long as you are prepared to be patient it takes at least 30-45 days I think you will be just fine. I had my sugery on Jan 5th, GOOD LUCK!!

I was approved by UHC on my first try, but I gave my dr. ALLOT of additional stuff to put in with his request, like letters from my other physician's stating that surgery would help my condition, like from the orthopedist, the dermatologist, my PCP and more. I really believe that any co. that knows for sure that you'll appeal if denied will look closely and approve if they can. I also stayed on them, calling and requesting info regarding my approval status at least once a week. Good luck!

i had uhc ppo, and not a lick of probs w/ it. i put in the reuqest, and in less than 2 1/2 weeks later was approved. the end of feb i got everything turned in (i had some minor probs w/ the psych. he thought he was god... i didn't... needless to say i didn't like him very well :). i was approved about the first week or so of march, and had surgery april 26 03. they paid everything except 200, which was my copay.(i've since changed employeers, and now have fortis short term insurance until i hit 6 mos employeement.) they reuqired at least 3 documented diet attempts and of those at least 1 in the last 12 mos. I had to have a psych consult which work paid for, and although i didn't need a letter of support from my pcp, he wrote one anyway. i also had to agree to release my medical records. they required either a bmi of 35 and 3 co morbids, or a bmi of 50 or higher and no co morbids. I was at bmi 50.5, and had at least 4 comorbids. i was pleased and impressed with how quickly and professionaly they took care of me.... out 9 mos, down 91 lbs, and 34 to hit goal... good luck, and god bless....
