Question:
Has anyone had experience with BCBS Federal paying for plastic surgery?

I had very good results with BCBS of Florida Federal paying for my open RNY 4 years ago. I now am ready for reconstructive/plastic surgery. The LBL will be first, so has anyone had good results with BCBS of FL Federal or any state BCBS Federal paying for any part of the LBL?    — Karen Renee (posted on May 22, 2005)

My daughter has bc/bs fep, and they approved her for breast reduction in less than a week, but hers is Illinois, but I think federal would be the same in any state. good luck, enjoy the ride.

I have BC/BS FEP PPO, and just got approval for a hernia repair and the abdominal skin (pannus) removal. They denied the other portions that will make up the lower body lift. They also denied the breast lift, arm lift, and inner thigh lift, saying that it would not result in significant functional improvement. So I'm planning on self-pay for those portions not covered.

The only plastic fed bc/bs paid for for me was my breast lift. I don't know, I think it just got by them. My plan would not preapprove anything, so I had the lift an aug, my hernia repair and abdominoplasty all done and the doctor billed them for everything except the augmentation. They paid for the lift and the hernia repair, but denied the abdominoplasty. I appealed and was ultimately denied by OPM for not having enough documentation. I ended up cutting a deal with the doctor for $3,000.00 for his fee which although it sounds good, I believe its more than he would have gotten had insurance paid.
