Hi, I like Splenda, I think it is a great product. Are you using creamer? THat of couse would add fat calories. I was always told as a new post op to avoid coffee and push water, morenutrient rich liquids.

HOLY MOLY! It took me 8 months to get that far! How much faster do you want to GO? Coffee is never the best thing for us because it messes with iron & calcium, but moderately and no sugar should not mess with you

I drink coffee all the time and have since about 2 months out. My hubby will not drink decaf so I mix half and half. Now, I do like creamer in mine so I some added calories. They recommend against caffeine as it is a diuretic and can interfere with some nutrients like someone else already said. If you are drinking straight decaf and using only Splenda in it, I can't see where it's going hurt anything. My opinion is go for it! I know I love my coffee, decaf or otherwise! Carmen

It hasn't so far!! You're doing great. My doc did say that coffee, even decaf, inhibits the absorbtion of calcium though so watch out for that.

Hello, fellow loser! You have done a great job. I'm sorry that your significant other isn't as joyous. and I hated hearing what that mother of his said. Easy way out, my behind! Nothing about this is easy and you are doing great! I know that we are always told not to drink caffiene but I couldn't let that go. It's hard enough to give up all of your favorite foods. So I have continued to drink my coffee using low carb International French Vanilla with Splenda already in it. I recommend it highly. It gives you all the wonderful flavor of the FV creamer without all the carbs and sugar. I am still losing weight, at about 2lbs a week which is just perfect for me. Remember this, in life everything in moderation, keeping your life balanced and you won't go wrong. Enjoy the losing! And keep your spirits high no matter what some unfeeling jealous nothing has to say. You are in victory and those who are negative should be ignored and maybe even pitied. Kim

I drink de-caff coffee (black) every evening, but only about 1/2 a mug full. Ever notice how sometimes if one isn't paying attention to your coffee, you stop drinking at part of a cup (or 2 or whatever). I was this way before surgery and that stop point has changed to 1/2 a mug now. I don't know if I get full or what but after that amount I don't want anymore. I tried regularly coffee again this morning (for about the 3rd or 4th time post-op) and I still can't stand it. It smells good in the distance but up close ready to drink, or after one taste, my body says YUCK! Don't know why. Anyway, I'm a DS and I don't know if my surgeon feels different about RNY's, but we are allowed moderate amount of coffee and/or 1 cup of green tea. (Tea can lead to kidney stones.)

Most people cant metabolize splenda and thus its not absorbed and has no effect on blood sugar, is zero carb, and doesnt count as calories. However a limited number of people can digest it, and for those it could effect weight loss. Sounds like your doing great. so dont fret!
