Question:
Can someone who's had their gall bladder out answer this?

Hi, okay this is not the most popular topic of conversation, but I would really like to know this. Okay, I had my gall bladder out 3 yrs ago, and am having an open rny in February. But ever since my gall bladder op. I've had very loose stools, and would have to go to the bathroom like 3 times a day!! Did this happen to anyone else, and did you start to have better "bathroom breaks" afterwards, considering you're eating alot less etc. ?? Thanks :)    — [Anonymous] (posted on December 20, 2001)

I had my gallbladder removed 10 years ago and I had the same problem as you. After having my RNY in September I have stopped having this problem. It took about 4 weeks, but since then I have not spent as much time in the bathroom as I used to.

I had my gallbladder out about a year before my surgery and was in the bathroom all the time. After the initial adjustment period from the RNY, plus taking my vitamins the way I'm supposed to (especially iron), the problem has gone away.

I had my gallbladder out 11 years ago. If I ate fat or really spicy food I knew I would need a bathroom. I had irritable bowl sydrome even before I got my gallbladder out. I had my rny over 3 months ago and my trips to the bathroom seem less frequent, my bms of firmer stuff. However, if I eat high fat (which i shouldn't anyway) I will still get a quick trip to the potty and loose stools. I feel lucky in a way, because so many people seem to get consitpated after surgery, and it has just normalized me a little.

My surgeon removed my gallbladder when he did my open rny. I do have loose stools when I eat fatty foods. And "when I have to go"....I "HAVE" to go. I can't wait around! You learn to adjust. I know the types of foods to avoid when I won't be near a restroom. Our bodies do change and each individual has to make adjustments.

I had my gall bladder out when they did my RYN, I have not had a bit of trouble unless I eat lettuce. I don\'t know if this is from my gallbladder being out or if it is my new pouch. It has been almost 4 months since my surgery. Good luck!

I had my gallbladder removed nearly 20 years ago and had chronic loose stools as a result. I travel alot on business and it was a challenge (I know every ladies room in most airports all too well). I am now three months post op (and down 54 pounds!) and now have much more normal stools every three or four days. This certainly makes travel easier, plus I fit in the seats :-)

I am just beginning to research gastric bypass surgery. I had my gall bladder out 5 years ago and have the same problem as you are describing - never know what I will eat that will cause the problem. I take Imodium about every other day - my doc said it was ok and makes things much better!

I had my gall bladder out 5 years before my RNY. I too, suffered the irritable bowel thing for years and guess what!!! It's gone now!! After RNY it got 85% better. Occasionally I get a small round of oh my God I need a bathroom Now! But very rarely. There is hope.
