Question:
Has anyone had problems with eating Thai food post-op?

I love the curries and noodle dishes. The noodles are made from rice flour, not wheat.. so I was wondering if they were easier to digest than spaghetti and italian pastas. The curry dish I like is made with coconut milk and comes with white rice - however there is ALOT of liquid in the curry, so I can use it to wet the rice and Im not concerned too much. But Im curious if anyone has had any experience with Thai food out there.    — Valerie H. (posted on July 23, 2002)

I just had Thai food last week..Red Curry Chicken with coconut milk and it REALLY tasted good. I didnt eat it with the white rice and I ordered it Mild (before WLS I could eat medium to hot easily)and although it went down just fine about 15 minutes after eating I got terrible heart burn so Im guessing it was a bit too early for Thai food. Hope this helps..Cheri WLS 5/7/02 -52lbs

Hi Valerie, Girl before surgery I was totally devoted to Thai food, loved it and loved it burning hot, since surgery I've only done a little of it, I've tried the following, Won Ton soup ( a big no no) could not get past the won tons, too doughy. I did enjoy the Tom Sum, soup great stuff, I just didn't eat the shrimp or mushrooms. I did chicken curry and that was great, with a little ( 1 teaspoon of rice) it was great but I ws worried about the cocunut milk, they say it has allot of sugar, and fat. I'm dying to do a beef thai salad or even pad thai, How-ever with not being able to drink after wards and Thai food always being so salty and spicey, I've been a little hesitant, Let me know what else you're able to do. I'm 2 months post op as of today and down 53 pounds. I'm at this point watching or at least trying to watch my fat intake. Good luck andGod Bless
