Question:
TT/hernia repair/poss breast lift---Time under
I am now looking into having a TT and possibly a breast lift at the same time as my hernia repair. My question is what have been the amount of time people have had to be asleep and what is the average stay in the hospital??? — Tammara D. (posted on August 2, 2004)

There was a girl on the main board the other day said she was going in for
the same thing and her doc told her 8 hours, she said she was more scared
of this than the WLS.

Check with your PS. MY PS would NOT do them both at the same time. The
TT/hernia repair was done first and it was over 4 hours (he did a great
job) actually I had my RNY surgeon fix the hernia, then the PS came and did
the TT. I spent 2 days in hospital. The Breast lift was done seperate;
also a 4 hour operation.. NO stay in hospital in in AM out in PM

I was under for 9 hours for my LBL and breast lift. It was suppose to be
7, but there were some unforseen things that took longer. I was fine. I
stayed in two nights. The doc said she would perform the procedure one at
a time depending on how I was doing while under. If there was a problem,
they would not have performed all the procedures. I don't know if they'd
do that much for everyone. I was in great shape physically and didn't have
a problem w/ the anesthesia.

Tammara, I had a breast lift with aug, tummy tuck with NO hernia repair
and an arm lift. I was out for 7 hours total and discharged the same day
with no problems. With you not having your arms done and no augmentation
but a hernia repair, I would probably guess around 5. Ask your surgeon
though, he can tell ya! Goiod luck!

I had a breast reduction, and abdominalplasty, and hernia repair. I was
under for about 7.5 hours. No sweat! Left the hospital the next morning
with 2 drains. My surgery was around 1:00 p.m. so they kept me overnight
because I also live about 2 hours from the hospital. Simple compared to
WLS.

Hi. I am having a TT and hernia repair next week. I saw this as my
opportunity to get as much as possible done as the PS is a family member,
and insurance won't pay for a breast lift or thigh lift. I figured it
might just cost me a bit for additional anesthesia and OR time. My PS, who
I call cousin Dr., advised me that if it is not absolutely neccessary, to
avoid staying under anesthesia for more than 4 to 5 hours. There are many
who do absolutely fine with longer time under anesthesia, but there are
possible complications and he wanted to play it conservative with me. I am
going to try to persuade him to be a little more adventurous when I speak
to him this week, but i think I will just have to save my pennies for the
breasts and legs, and do them later on at another time.

I had full abdominoplasty/huge hernia repair on Monday July 19, stayed in
hosp until Thursday afternoon, was a MAJOR hernia repair (Dr. said as bad
as it could have been) and had almost 17 pounds of skin/fat removed, it was
pretty awful first 2 days, time in OR was 8 hours, 2 surgeons, general and
plastic. At 2 weeks post-op Im still very tight, sore, still have 1 drain
in, and stitches which will come out on Friday are alomost the whole way
around my hips almost meeting on my backside. Ill be glad to start feeling
better when drain is out, and when I dont feel so "stretched and
tight". But, like my husband says in his Fernando Lamas impersonation:
"it's not how you feel, its how you look, and you look
mah-velous!" haha!
