Question:
Are men's pouch sizes bigger than womens?

I am 12 days post op nd started at 500 pounds. I have read about women who can only eat 2-3 bites and they are full. That is not the case at all for me, I can eat a full 4-5 ounces pretty easily. I also seem to be able to drink liquids about the same rate as I used to. I am on soft foods now but have eaten some chicken breast, meatloaf, fish, etc. I am just wondering alsoif maybe I was given a bigger pouch because I started out so big or what?    — Mike B. My surgeon told me that he tries to make all pouches roughly the same size, but sometimes the very heavy patients have excessively large livers or a lot of fat deposits around the organs and stomach, and that can make it hard to get right close to the stomach to make the small pouch. I have not read your profile, but did you have an RNY, and was it transected? Maybe you have a staple problem of some sort. If you're concerned, ask your doc what size he made your pouch. I know myself that I can eat more when I eat very slowly, cause the food is constantly draining out of the pouch. Hope I have been of some help. Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY Nov.4/02 (-71)

My surgeon told me that he makes men's pouches larger about 1.5 oz in size while the women get a 1 oz size pouch. The reason he gave was that it was harder to reach high enough on the stomache to make a 1 oz pouch. <p>Take Care, Be Well, and Be Happy!

My surgeon makes pouches of varying sizes, but I am not sure if it's a male vs female distinction. I, personally, have a 2 oz (30cc) pouch...JR (open RNY 07/17/2002 -139 pounds)

Sorry, I didn't give much info the first time. Yes, I had a Open RNY on 12/30/02. I'm not sure what transected means but if it means that my old stomach is seperated then yes. Thanks for the info everyone!
