Will Insurance PAY for a TUMMY TUCK?
i AM POST OP A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND IM DOWN TO 160 @ 5'9 AND i REALLY NEED A TUMMY TUCK, WELL, NOT REAL BAD, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ONE....ANYWAYS I WAS TALKING TO A FRIEND THAT JUST HAD SURGERY A FEW MONTHS AGO AND SHE KNOWS A GIRL THAT HAD THE SURGERY OVER A YEAR AGO AND WEIGHED ALOT MORE THAN I SHE HAD QUITE A BIT MORE HANGING SKIN AND HER INSURANCE PAID FOR HER TUMMY TUCK BUT SHE HAD TO PAY FOR THE SKIN REMOVAL ON HER LEGS AND ARMS....ANYWAYS, I WAS WONDERING IF THIS COULD BE TRUE.....WILL INSURANCE PAY FOR YOUR TUMMY TUCK AND IF SO,, HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING STARTED???? alot of insurers will pay if you have medical problems because of the loose
skin. rashes, boils, back pain, skin tears ect... one of the most important
things to do is to get your pcp to document these things. if you have a
history of these then they well see it is medically nessasary for
reconstrutive surgey. never use the word "plastic" when you talk
to your doctors or insurance, say "reconstructive".

Unless you can prove medical necessity for a tummy tuck, most insurances
won't. However, if you can document rashes, infections, back problems,
etc., you can make a case for it.

By the way Karen I had Cigna too. So my info is what got me my win on
appeal with Cigna :-)

My mother's Tummy Tuck was covered by insurance and she is having her legs
and arms done but that is out of pocket. The folds of skin were creating
yeast infections in the folds and that's how it passed through insurance.
Of course your doctor will have to provide medical documentation and proof
for this procedure.

My insurance, Cigna, has paid for every surgery I have had. I have not
only had the RYN but mastopexy, addominoplasty, thigh lift as well as a
monsplasty. Document every little rash, skin tear, etc. Make sure your
PCP notes them in your medical records. Take photos and keep copies. Note
every medication you apply to any skin issues. If you are persistant, the
fight with the insurance company is worth the end result. I am still
fighting for the flank plasty and believe I will get the approval.
