Question:
What was your very first 'soft' foods meal, after your pureed/liquid diet?

So many choices, but I don't want to over do it by picking the wrong thing too soon. I was sort of thinking on having a little baked cod, and a little bit of baked Ziti. (Is pasta too hard at 4 weeks)? I've seen a lot of questions regarding the 'last meal'. I was wondering what your 'first' meal was after our soupy diets? Thanks--    — Annie R. I had scrambled eggs and toast at Denny's with my daughter. That meal was great. It tasted like the most expensive meal in the world. After not eating anything but liquids for 3 weeks it was heavently. :)

Hi Anne: Beans!! I had refried beans with lowfat cheese and they were heaven....I could only eat a few bites though. Some have posted they get pintos and cheese from Taco Bell. Good Luck and Ciao.... :)

I too am on my first week of soft foods. Fish and backed chicken is really good. Also, over cooked veggies are good too. I had some rice that was a little dry so I decided to put some lowfat margarine and a little low fat cheese on it and it made me dump. Not sure why except maybe the milk content. I would be very careful with cheese. Also, if you're doing refried beans, go with lowfat or you're defeating the purpose of the surgery. The surgery is only a tool but you have to make wise choices. I have also eaten hardboiled eggs and Gardenburgers. The Gardenburgers are just soft enough and they have enough fiber content to help with constipation. Good luck and just remember to chew, chew, chew! It's amazing how food tastes when you have to chew it well.

Cottage cheese. It was yummy, never liked it so much before surgery. I also found if people wanted to "bring" me food, a baked potato with cheese from Wendys. I never finished it but it was tasty and made me feel more a part of the group.

I made egg drop soup with a little of pastina(very small pasta)at about 2-3 weeks. I didn't relize that thepasta would expand from the broth. I was in discomfort and had to force myself to bring it back up. I haven't tried pasta again.

I had the meal at 4 weeks you mentioned and it was my first bad reaction..I felt like the itsy-bitsy bit of chicken or pasta was stuck. It did work itself through in about 24 hours, but I did not try chicken again for a long time. I still at 10 weeks am leery of chicken as I can't seem to handle it well. My first was pintos and cheese from Taco Bell and I liked it..didn't eat all of it, but did well. Please just take it easy and listen to your tummy! I'm still learning every day what is working on a given day. Best Wishes.
