Question:
Does anyone know if Kaiser will pay for a tummy tuck after you loose all your weight?

I heard that if you keep your weight off for one year Kaiser will pay for the tummy tuck and a brest reduction. I would like to know if any one has had any one of these operations done though Kaiser.    — Nadine L. (posted on October 2, 2002)

Kaiser Northern CA does NOT pay for any plastic surgery. I was told by my surgeon to "save my pennies" for a TT or anything else because they don't cover it.

I have had both Northern & Southern Californian Kaiser (currently so. member) and I am pretty sure they are the same about these procedures. Like Mary said, they need to be medically necessary. Definitely call member services and ask, and keep asking. Kaiser is a hard nut to crack, although once you do "get through" it can be well worth it. Patience and persistence is the key, which I know is F***ing HARD!!! I have spent some serious time on the phone with member services, getting the run around, different answers, etc... When I did finally get what I was requesting it was wonderful and all else is falling into place. I would suggest that when the time comes to have the TT, talk to your PCP and have him.her refer you to the plastic surgery department. I hope this helps..Good Luck to you...Aims

ALL insurances HAVE to look at MEDICAL NECESSITY. Just because a tummy tuck is typically considered a "cosmetic" procedure, doesn't mean in each case it is. It is just a red flag procedure that insurances have to review. If you are having health issues, like: rashes, back pain, difficulty exercising from a haning pannis,etc..those are medical neccessity reasons and they should approve them. Your doctor can write a good letter and photos speaks volumes.

For starters "NEVER" call it a Tummy Tuck. Its a paniculectomy....and still must be medically neccessary. Go to the doctor for every, rash, irritation, and infection you have under the skin apron and get it documented.....Kaiser is tough.
