I know you've heard this a thousand times, but it is SO, SO, SO critical to drink all of your water post op. 12 days after a hugely successful surgery I landed myself back in the hospital for the last 3 days because I was dehydrated (elevated heart rate) and experiencing extreme pain. They tried 11 times to get an IV in & couldn't so they finally had to put in a central line to get fluids in me. I was subject to 3 days of every kind of test under the sun to try to find out why I was in so much pain. The didn't find anything major, but suspect it was due in part to the dehydration. After 3 days on fluids & pain killers, the pain dissipated & I got to come home. The hospital I was at has a fantastic staff, but it was still a miserable & completely avoidable situation. I will NEVER, EVER miss drinking all of my fluids again. It's good to be back home & the fun news is that I had lost 26 lbs in the 2 weeks since my surgery (I gained 3 when I was in the hospital this week, but I don't mind at all since it was much needed fluids).

WhoooHooo!! I'm a big fat looser! I made it home from the hospital yesterday afternoon from my surgery on Thursday. Everything went fairly smooth. I was in the hospital for a total of about 50 hours from the time I checked in until I was cleared to go. I did have the obnoxious experience of gaining 2 pounds while I was in the hospital, but my doctor says not to worry it's just fluids. Now that I'm home, my pain meds put me right to sleep so I've been spending much of my time in bed. I get up to eat, walk & drink water then it's back off to have another 'nap'. My mom (who's staying with me) thinks I should ease off the pain meds - I told here 'are you kidding - this is a dream come true - go to sleep & wake up skinny' :) My thoughts & prayers to all of you who are going to surgery shortly - it's worth every bit of it for that moment you wake up from surgery & your doctor says 'Everything went wonderfully'. It is a fantastic feeling - especially when he started talking about how much better I'll feel as the weight starts coming off.

I thought I'd stop in and say I hope your surgery went well, you have very little pain, and you are up and running in no time. Cathy Whitmer
