Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I get depressed when I look at myself in the mirror, I've tried Herbal Magic twice, first time was successful but then I was younger and hadn't had my children yet, second time, had three kids, bills, etc., couldn't really afford it and found it hard to do with a soon-to-be exhusband who really didn't help with support at all and did sabotage my attempts. My health is something I am really worrying about especially with a big birthday coming up in a couple of years...I want to enjoy my kids while they're still young enough to want to play with mommy, i.e., baseball, soccer, tobagganing, etc...And now being a single parent, I really don't have the money or time to go on any diet. I want to be healthy!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to fit into any great looking clothes, not being able to play with my kids, running out of steam while just climbing some stairs, not having any energy, hating myself in pictures, having my own kids say I'm fat.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Was referred, got my orientation, then my first appt...that's where my surgery journey ends but a new program being offered has just changed the journey to weight loss. No surgery required! Hoping to start mid-June...
