Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I've struggled with my weight since elementary school. I've tried countless diets and actually lost 100lbs in my twenties on my own by eating low fat and exercising daily. I kept it off for almost 5 years, then slowly but surely I gained it all back and then some. My self esteem for the past 10 years has been at an all time low and eating was what made me the most happy. The more weight I gained, the less I wanted to go out and exercise and be active, which just lead to more eating. I felt completely out of control and miserable in my own body.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight is that I avoid friends, family members, and social gatherings because I'm hiding from everyone that I haven't seen because I'm ashamed of the way I look and because of course I don't have anything to wear and don't want to shop for clothes because it's depressing.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I'm only 2 weeks post-op...
