So I have booked my surgery and getting ready for it now. I have heard you can claim certain things for the out-of-country surgery?/ Could someone help guide me with this and what forms I need etc?? Is this true? how soon do they have to be in?? Etc.

You have to go to the Alberta Health site and hunt around for their out of country form. Print it out, get a receipt from your surgeon that is more detailed than his norm (the form will explain what you need), fill it in and mail it. I don't know if you need a note from your doctor here, but the form should say.

I believe it needs to be sent in within 3 months of your surgery.

Here is a link to the Alberta Health Insurance Site that has many links and such that will help explain alot (but then in pure governmental fashion) and also most likely bring up even more questions.

It is a good a place to start as any.  Good luck

Thanks for posting the link! I thought I was out of luck (had it in my head that I had to apply within 3 months - it's 365 days!)

I'll write for a more detailed receipt and fill out my forms - I haven't a thing to lose but a stamp.
