Venofer Infusions

For those of you who've had Venofer infusions, how long did the infusions take? I am going to ask them to do a very slow drip with a lot of saline as I tend to react to things... wondering how long I will be away from work.

Venofer is normally a 2 hour infusion at my institution. It is a better IV iron than dextran as there are rarely any immediate allergic reaction, and the "flu-like" symptoms common to all biologics are more subtle and shorter in duration.

I'm usually there for about 3-3.5 hours from start to finish.
Luckily I work in the same hospital where I have my infusions so I just use the wireless connection to my laptop and work the whole time I am there. It's better then watching the game or talk shows that are on the TV.

Depends on the dose. If it is your first time, it is probably a smaller dose. My first dose of 100 mg took one and a half to two hours plus keeping me a half hour to make sure I didn't have a reaction. More recently I had 500 mg and it took about 6 hours. They gave me benadryl and tylenol before hand, too. It is usually followed by a 15 minute minimum of saline.
