Does slow release medication work for us now?

Hi folks!

Went and saw my family doctor about the chest pain I've been having and she prescribed Tecta 40 mg delayed release pills for a suspected case of GERD and is sending me to the cardiac institute for a stress test, etc. to check out my heart just to be safe.

For all you medical genius types out there... does delayed release still work for us without a stomach for the pills to sit in???  Just wondering if this will still work, or if I should talk to her about prescribing something different?

All thoughts appreciated!

I was on Adalat for blood pressure, it is a time release pill. When I saw the pharmacist who is part of the bariatric team he requested to my famioly doctor to be changed because AFTER surgery we are NOT able to absorb them properly. I am now on Novasc. so the answer is a resounding YES, ask your dictor to change your time release meds to non time release

I have always heard time-release does not work well because the pill passes through the stomach so quickly

I was prescribed Tecta for a suspected marginal ulcer by a local doctor. I followed up with Dr. Pereira Hong and she prescribed Prevacid stating that it works better for RNY patients. Tecta is enteric coated.

Coated meds and time release do not tend to work well post WLS. Ask your Pharmacist.
I think Prevacid is one of the recommended meds to take for GERD. I know I had to take it for a while after my WLS.

Hey Laura,

I agree with the previous posters, I have taken the Prevacid Fastabs since I was out of surgery.  I was also told that the time release pills are useless to us rny'ers.  Hope to see you on Wednesday!!  Oh by the way.....you and Adele were right about the tailbone issue.....I can't seem to sit comfortably in any position...lol.

With the malabsorption and small pouch slow release is not reccommended, Post op prevacid works well. TWH send you home with a script for it, At 7 months still taking for reflux. It comes in a dissolvable format so great post op as no crushing,
