I definitely believe it about the hard sell. I looked into it before going the Bariatric Network route. This describes the pitch perfectly:
"She also consulted with other staff once after deciding to go ahead, a meeting she describes as a “cheerleading, motivational" presentation, where the operation’s benefits were extolled in a “hard sell" and its potential for rare but serious complications ignored."
Medical treatments and surgeries should not be pushed on people like that. It's a serious decision. That's why public health care, and strengthening access to WLS through publicly-funded programs is so important. It should be based on need and sober consideration, not on hype and high-pressure sales tactics.
