Okay, I am just full of questions today.

Okay I have some burning questions and was hoping the peeps here on the forum can help:

1) when can you resume sex after surgery?  whenever you feel like it or is there some golden rule?  I never thought to ask the clinic pre-surgery.

2) when can you consider going back into a hot tub?    If ou say when the stitches/wounds heals over, how long is that normally?    and that leads me to my next question:

3) there are steri-strips over top of my stitches. Do these just fall off naturally?  If so how long after surgery?       I don't know what things look like under so don't know how if they are healing okay.  I do see my family dr this week as a follow up but they won't see any more than I do.  I am told they are dissolving stitches so presumably they will go away sometime although no clue how long that takes.

Hi Dar,

1.  I don't know. :D  The booklet I got when I left the TEGH says:  Sexual Activity:  You can be sexually active again when you feel well enough.  It is very important that you do not get pregnant for about one year to 18 months after your surgery.  Talk to your doctor about the best way to prevent pregnancy." - not a very informative pamphlet!

2.  I was told not to swim for a month after surgery, when the incisions would be healed up.

3.  The steri-strips fall off on their own.  Two of mine fell off 1/5 of my incisions and my surgery was on Monday.  My surgeon said that if they didn't fall off, I could peel them off after a week.

Under the steri-strips that fell off one of my incisions, it looks a little red around a darker coloured scab.  It's really pretty harmless looking - not like Frankenstein's brows.

So according to my centre (Ottawa) you can have sex when you feel up to it and yes the steristrips are just supposed to fall off on their own no hot tub for 4 weeks. Good luck!

When you feel ready. Do be gentle and take your time. ( yes a guy just said that) lol

When your scabs fall off. This is different for everyone. couple of weeks to a month or so. You still will be healing so take it easy and listen to your body. If you feel quite tired, you are, don't pu****

Those sterie strips are supposed to fall off. Mine refused to come off and had to be ripped from me like so much skin. My luxurious fur pelt is said to have caused this but I find a number of inanimate objects in life are over emotional and just don't want to let go when it's over. Your mileage may vary.

Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.

Interesting how the hot tub question follows the sex question

When  was discharged from the hospital I was told 3 weeks for sex...not sure who told me, either one of the doctors of the physiotherapist that came in.

No clue about the hot tub

Some of my strips fell off after several days and the rest I took off about 10 days after surgery.

Hello surgery twin:). My steri-strips were taken off by the nurse @ follow-up on Thursday...they're all closed up!  Anxiously waiting for the 4 week mark when baths are approved!  Sex is fine; whenever you're comfortable... you'll be just fine now (trust me...wink wink).

I would be sure that your wounds are completely healed before I ventured in a hot tub or a pool. That's what my doctor told  me.
