introduction
Hi - I'm Cathy. I am from Peterborough. I am scheduled for a Rny on May 21 at St Joes in Toronto, my surgeon is Dr. Lindsay. I start the opti on May 1, and so not looking forward to the process. I am still trying to figure out how to use the site, but have been a lurker for some time now and have found it very helpful and informative.
Welcome Cathy.
If I may suggest, you can enter a topic in the "Search" (blue banner in the top right near "My Account") I enter the word Ontario plus whatever I am searching for if I hope to find a topic that is relevant to Ontario specifically.
As you can see by my signature line I am 11 days post-op so Optifast is still fresh in my mind.
Here is a link to my tips for surviving your time with the shakes, which I posted 11 days into my 3 weeks.

All the best as you prepare.

Actually Cathy, I feel really good. Getting in all my fluids, vitamins and protein. Have to admit it takes some planning but it is very worthwhile. Still a little tender at my largest incision site but manageable. Still sleeping on my back but I can see that by next week I will likely be back to my old side sleeping self. Only pain meds at this point is Tylenol at bedtime but I have a pretty high pain tolerance. All the best as you prepare for Optifast and surgery.

Hi Cathy,
Don't fret too much about the Opti. There are lots of ways to change the taste texture etc. Some make it into pudding or ice cream. Some add things like SF syrops, or decalf coffee etc. I went through it and just used 12 oz of really cold water (I didn't know about adding things at the time) and didn't have a problem. A lot of it is mind over matter. If you think you'll hate it, you will. So go in with a positive attitude. It's only 2 - 3 weeks that you'll be on it, and then it's surgery.
Enjoy the journey!
Cathy
