NSF (Non-Scale Failure)

Took my beautiful kayak out to Meech Lake today for my first paddle of the year. I suspected that it might be a tighter fit in the ****pit this year after my less-active-than-normal winter. That was an understatement!!!!  I was squeezed in soooooo tight but nevertheless managed to paddle for two hours (annoying a few nesting loons and Canada Geese). When I got back to the launch it was like pulling a cork out of a bottle. I have never had to struggle like that to get out of my ****pit. That's when I realized that it was probably not particularly safe for me to be paddling my boat at this size. If I had capsized I could potentially have had a lot of difficulty doing a wet exit. I figure that I'm going to have to lose 10-15 pounds to be able to paddle safely.  I am soooooo disappointed. Paddling is how I normally spend my summer.

This experience certainly drove home the potential benefits of WLS. (And a return to a more active lifestyle!!!!!!)

So sorry you were so disappointed today. . .the good news is you were safe and recognized that you had placed yourself in an unsafe scenario. . .also on the positive side given the enjoyment you get from paddling you have good incentive to shed those winter pounds and it won't be long before you are back in your ****pit

Back to basics. . .you got this

I used to love taking the canoe out at my sisters cottage. Kayaking might be something fun to try. I live two blocks from lake simple so I certainly have the water though it may be to rough a lake unless staying very close to shore. Sorry you're not comfortable paddling this year. All the more reason for you to be on this wonderful journey.

Keep at it! I am really looking to using my kayak at our river house this summer. Didn't use it at all last summer as was so difficult to get in and out with my weight and sore knee. One week post surgery and already feeling better!

I am so sorry this was your experience the good news is that to loose 10-15 lbs now that the weather is nice probably won't be so bad.... then you can get back to paddling.

I like to kayak but the last time I tried I had the little kayak and the back end was below the water...that was embarasing.  I plan to give it another go this summer... :)

These NSF's are a good part of why we do WLS and why it feels sooooo good when you can do these things again.

Just think of it as a GREAT way to track your progress.  Like a shirt that used to be tight that is now huge on you, you'll be able to track your progress by how you FEEL in that kayak!  And sometimes those things feel so much better than just the number on the scale.  We have kayak's at the cottage too and I've never gone in them for the same fear.  This year I'm going to give it a try! Don't worry, by next summer, you'll be laughing!
