Nail Polish?
To the ladies - Were you told to remove nail polish from both your fingers and toes for surgery day?
My surgery is tomorrow in Ottawa (yahoo - I thought this day would never come) and at the pre-op this morning I was told nail polish had to be removed from both toes and finger nails.
However, I've had differing comments that others were only told to remove finger nail polish.
I'll do what I was told by the nurse at Ottawa but I'm just curious. I just had a manicure and pedicure done - uggh.... Off to buy some more nail polish remover.....

Yep - I had to take off all of mine before my surgery back in 2001 - I believe it's because they watch your nail beds for blueish tint.

You can have clear polish, even solar/gel nails are allowed but must be clear. My brother in law s an anesthesiologist and said their instruments can read through clear polish but not coloured. I also asked my anesthesiologist at HRRH he said the very same thing, clear is ok.
Good luck tomorrow, lots of room on the bench for ya!
Annette
Thanks, ladies! :)

Yes off with the polish they want to see your nail beds during surgery.
They don't actually see or look at your nail beds, its a clip that sits on your nail that has a light that beams through your nails, so clear is good on both hands and feet, honest. My operating room nurse said my my what pretty toes you have, I had both hands and feet done in 'French' so I said this is ok right, and yes she said I don't care about your toes let me see your fingers, she said yup clear is good and when you get to the operating room, they put your feet in these gel feet holders so your heels don't hurt after surgery, they put those on as soon as you lie down. The anesthesiologist clips a monitor to your index finger, much like the one they put on you after surgery in your recovery that monitors your oxygen levels.
Good luck tomorrow!!! And it's a darn good thing to know about the nail beds!
