OK so here's my situation. I live with my parents and twin sister currently. My mom is a quadriplegic. So, when it comes time to feeding her supper, etc. I normally split the work between my sister and step dad. How can i get through to them and explain that sitting there with awesome smelling food feeding my mom is going to drive me utterly insane because i'll be drinking Optifast for 3 weeks...

Any suggestions on getting through to the family?

I start Optifast on Monday! ^_^

I think you just need to tell them what you need over this three week period and ask them for their support in this. Straightforward is probably best.

Good luck!

I have my eye on the prize at the end of the 3 weeks, a new life!!! Drink your Opti while you feed help feed mom, I wont lie it will be difficult the first few days..but keep your eye on the prize...remember why you are on the Opti!!  I am sure they will all understand if they are behind you in your decision.  I am on my last 4 days of Opti...was at a meeting last night and everyone had food, I was good with it...i could smell how good it all was...and knew that eventually in another 4-5 wks I will be able to eat again!  Good luck to you!!!! this is an amazing journey we are on!!

Talk to your family before you start Optifast, and raise your conserns.  Let them know that you don't know if you'll be able to help out while on Optifast, as it may be too difficult and that this is something that you need to do.  Opti can be harder the first few days until your body gets used to it.  You may not need to stop helping for the full time on Opti, after the first few days or week, you may find that the smells don't bother you and you can help out again.  Depending on what else you are allowed to eat (some are allowed SF jello, SF popsicles etc, some are allowed certain veggies) maybe you can join them and eat the extras at that time.

Enjoy the Opti!

Excellent advice from Ellen MW - drink your Optifast while you feed your mom, explain to your family that the first few days are going to be tough.
