my doctor want 4 weeks on clear liquids post op.  I just could not do it after 2 weeks pre op.  I was having a hard time with the jello (cramping going down) and I just did not want to deal with broth anymore.  I got sick of it.

so I am eating stage 3 baby foods. should I be concerned?  I feel better now that I am eating something more hearty.   I was eating egg drop soup from the beginning which he doesnt recomment til the 6th week but I didnt want anymore broth...couldnt take it.

for some reason I feel like my weight loss is slow and I wonder if this has something to do with it.  I am  not really drinking the protein shakes, it gives me gas.

I am getting frustrated.

I am trying to do the 30mins between eating and drinking but by the time the time passes. I think i am  hungry again or I am confusing hunger for thirst./

I can barely think straight because I am not getting enough nutrients,,,,,

just venting

wow... that is a long time.  I was off clear liquids and on cream soups on day 3.  Just went to my dr. appt.  on Wed. and have been cleared to start mushies on Monday.   I would call and talk to your doctor to make sure there wasn't a misunderstanding.... Although thru this forum I have heard many different times that doctors give for starting different stages.
Good luck and hang in there... :-)

Hi there,  i imagine that would be very hard.  I was sent home from the hospital on full liquids.   I am certainly not telling you to not follow your doctor's recommendations but i thought you might find the following diet guidelines interesting reading.   These are three of the bigger bariatric specialists and what their food guidelines/timelines look like.   I was very happy to find this because all the info i got from my doctor said,  you have just had a gastric bypass?  and i'm like,  no i didn't.  So very interesting reading and i hope it helps.   Just be sure to do very soft liquidy foods for the first month.  As this is when the scar tissue is growing around the staples to seal off the new tummy.  Lots of us have a stall on our weight loss around week 3, your body is still in shock and trying to figure out what the heck did you just do to me?    Hope you start feeling better soon  :o) Jeani

Did your dr.give you written instructions? Or maybe you didnt understand him? Thats really a heck of a long time to be on clear liquids. I thought my dr.said clear liquids till I met with him 10 days later but I called the office ot verify...and they said...no..you should be on full from day 3 till you see him..When I saw him he told me to go to mushy/soft at 15days...I would call the office and be sure.
They told me even 10 days was too long because you cant be without the protein.........Anything you are drinking/eating is just passing thru........

Clear or full? Because the ASMBS says there is no clinical data to support being on clears at all. But being on liquids for 2-3 weeks, there's lots of support for that.

OTOH stage 3 baby food is full of sodium and (often) sugar. If you are going to advance yourself, there are plenty of things that are a lot better for you and wont' slow down your weight loss such as skim milk, soy milk, greek yogurt and cottage cheese.

the instructions are written. week 1-4 broth, diet jello and water. high protein liquid supplements.

week 5- add in low fat/non fat yogurt, LF/NF cottage & rocotta cheese
week 6- soft protein (light and string cheese, refried beans) and soups (lentil, split peas black bean, miso, egg drop, etc)  tofu
week 7- chicken, turkey and egg, etc

I read the other diet guidlines and that is why I knew I could progress earlier

the protein shakes have me making those gurgling noises I sound like a frog croaking, I cant take it

Why do you not feel it's important to follow the directions given to you by your Dr.?  I'm assuming you or your insurance company paid him for the knowledge and professional training he has in this field.

I'm not saying that you're not going to "get sick of it" or you feel like you "can't take it".  I am saying that this medical professional has more training and experience with the process you're going through and certainly knows you and your health situation much better than anyone you're going to find on an Internet forum.  I guarantee you those that are most successful with this surgery are the ones that have followed their doctors instructions.  Even the 4 weeks on liquids is not that long considering the life long benefits you're going to see if you're successful using your new tool.

Ok, done being mean.  Good luck and listen to your Dr.

it's not mean but rather a fair question.  the broth was making me nauseous and the jello was  knotting up and cramping all the way down. it hurt to eat.  I made a thread about it too.  I was trying my best to follow it.

I am having a hard time with cold food and so I did the soups.  I though egg drop soup would be fine because I was eating the broth from won ton soup as well. when I first came home.

we didnt get the diet progression until the 1 week follow up ( It was about 8 of us)  I was already doing the egg drop soup until I saw that was scheduled for week 6.  I was like wow!

You were sleeved same day I was! Congratulations :)

I preordered some chicken soup flavored protein drink and it was the savior of my sanity!  (I'm more of a salt gal).  It's a bariatric protein supplement so it feels, to me, to be much more pouch friendly.  Check the labels and make sure it's not too salty or too sugary.  Some of the over the counter proteins are loaded with salt and sugar, and at first, you could be sensitive to that.  When you feel nauseous or have that crampy stuck feeling - walk walk walk.  It really does work.

Take GasX for the gas :)  They have the ones that disolve on your tongue - works wonders.  Also make sure you're taking your antacid, that can help too.

I read that the "hungry again" feeling can happen if you are taking too big of a bite and it sits at the top of the pouch rather than sliding down to the bottom and filling up your stomach. If you eat tiny tiny bites and take a break between each bite, you will gently fill the pouch and feel full longer.

I think the bottom line is, though, the guidelines are there to protect your pouch.  Too much, too soon can stretch the pouch or worse, cause a leak, which would be really dangerous. I'd also talk to your doctor about the nausea because they can give you meds for that.

I hope that helps a little bit!  Good luck :D

It doesn't hurt to call the doctor to ask if you can do full liquids.    Just explain to him how you just did to us.    The worst they could say is no and give you more suggestions OR they could say YES.  So give it a try.    Asking DOES NOT HURT!
Have a Nice Day/Night!
