My husband is about to decide to have the VSG. I had a Band over Bypass almost a year ago--the bypass was 10 yrs ago. I am just now learning about VSG. Are there many 2 WLS households out there? Any conflicting foods for us to be aware of? Any advice from the community? Thanks!

I am still preop, but have done a lot of research into all of the WLS.  From what I can tell, VSG doesn't limit what we can eat.  You can have the surgery and if you want to you can eat bom boms, fried chicken, ice cream, and just about anything else then you can...that is if you want to stay obese or gain weight back.  We have a strict diet post op that lasts a few months, until our new sleeve can tolerate normal foods, very similar if not the same as the bypass post op diet.  Then we are allowed to make our own choices based off of the new found knowledge of what our food choices do to our bodies.

One big thing I have noticed is that a lot of people seem to really dislike sweet things after surgery and some become lactose intolerant.  If you search Frisco, he is a vet on here, he has what we like to call "food porn."  He has taken everyday dishes and given us healthier versions of them and made them look so delicious.  I'm sure some 2 surgery households will reply or at least some vets and give you great advice.  Best of luck.

I had a revision band removed and received the sleeve, daughter & hubby have sleeve also so we are a three household unit with WLS. My hubby & daughter both experienced  a dumping like syndrome with their sleeve if they eat to fast or something really sweet, greasy or rich they get sweaty shaking and feel faint and then when they go to bathroom it comes right out. With sleeve food & vitamins are absorped naturally so you don't have to worry about malabsorption.

You can't just eat anything after having any WLS the sleeve makes you sensitive to sweets and you can not eat fried foods etc.. anymore than you can with RNY, band , etc... There is no WLS that won't allow you to eat what you put in your mouth. It would be nice if there was, but WLS no matter what kind is only a tool for you to use. Use your tool properly and you will have success.

What is nice about sleeve is that it can be changed to duendol switch which requires lots of expensive vitamins and labs but you can eat a whole bunch and maintain a healthy weight. I say go with sleeve! 4 months out daughter is 125 lbs. down and hubby 90 lbs. down. I am only 4 days out so nothing significant yet.  Good luck to your hubby on his decision.
I can do it, I can do it, chugga, chugga, chugga said the little train! Thank you Lord for giving me the strength!
