I have a question, I just got approved for my surgery this morning.  It is now scheduled for June 4, 2012.  How long should take off from work.

I work a legal assistant.  I am sitting all day, not alot of heavy lifting.   Pretty much, a very take it easy job.

Do you guys think a week is enough?

If you are in otherwise good health AND you have no complications, then yes, a week should be plenty.  I also have an office job.  I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work on Monday.  I was still a bit tired, but otherwise fine.

BUT everyone heals at a different rate and you can't always predict complications...so I can only tell you you will probably be fine.  On the other hand, if you CAN take more time off...some extra rest can't hurt and can only help.

I went back at 3 weeks . I was tired still but otherwise good. A week, I wouldn't have been ready. 2 - closer ( I am a nurse that doesn't do a lot of lifting , but I do a lot of bending and stuff) ... 3 feels pretty good... but now that I am 4 weeks , it is even better lol... It really depends on how you are feeling , is your job forgiving in terms of being able to take litte breaks etc...

I will be off work four weeks.

My surgeon's "guideline" is four to six weeks.

I have short term disability insurance through my employer and that helps with being able to financially afford the time off.   The short term disability covered time off per the insurance carrier is four weeks as well.  (It could be extended if complications).

Hi, I had my surgery on Monday and went back a week later. I think the magic bullet is getting up and walking as much as you can the week after surgey. It builds strength. I am talking small walks around the house, not huffing it around the block . Best, Sharon

I'm an IT guy and spend most of my time at a desk, or other peoples desks. I'm taking almost 3 weeks. Surgery on Thursday, May 10 and back May 29. I was going to take 2 weeks but couldn't see the sense in going back on the Thursday before a 3 day weekend.

I was sleeved on 4/26 and am returning to work on 5/7. I work in hospital administration so I have a lot of walking but no heavy lifting.

I went back 3 weeks after being sleeved and wish I could have waited until 4 weeks. My job invloves desk work, driving and some walking but nothing too strenuous. There is absolutely NO WAY I could have gone back at 1 week. I could not stand upright at 1 week because I was still in so much pain. I could not raise my arms up to undress myself even.

I went back to work 13 days post op. My job deosn't require any physical work. I sit 50 % of the time. The only thing I regretted about going back so early is my lack of energy because I was on full liqiuids...no food for weeks. By week three I was much better because I was able to consume enough food energy.
