Elliptical question

I was just wondering if anyone that uses the elliptical has problems with their feet getting numb. Mine gets numb around 20 minutes and hurts so bad at the 30 minute mark. Apparently its not just me because the trainer at the gym said this happens and some other people I have talked to said this happens also, but I was just wondering if you have found anything that helps this.

Yep, makes me nuts! When I start to feel it happening I stop and strech my ankles and calves, from what I understand its quite common.

Its annoying because I could do it longer but it hurts. It also happens when I am in spinning classes.

It's happened to me, too.  The problem I experienced was my tennis shoes were too small.  I went to a half size bigger and problem solved.  I try to move my toes around too while exercising.

This may be common, but its not normal. This maybe r/t pressure on nerves, low oxygen supply to nerves/tissue, electrolyte issues, and many other things. Next time your at your PCP's office ask them about it.

It used to happen to me when I was heavier.  However, when I did have that problem, I just switched to the arc trainer. Eventually I was able to go back to the elliptical. I gradually increased my time.   Now, I am at a different gym that uses a different brand of ellipticals, and the pressure is totally different.  They don't all have the same angle.  My thighs hurt more and my feet are perfectly fine. I could be on it forever without problems.

Thats so weird, they told me to try the other elliptical (they have one odd ball there) and it did the same thing. Whats an arc trainer?

Google arc trainer and pictures of the Cybex Arc Trainer will come up.  You stand on it and swing your legs- some machines have you swing your arms and some don't.

I hate the elliptical, it shreds my thighs. Which may be the point. I can only do ten minutes and that's hard. For contrast, I can walk 1.8 miles on the 35 minutes we're allowed to use the treadmill at the gym I go to. I basically switch off between treadmill and stationary bike for cardio.
