Anyone else scared to try on clothes?
It's so strange, but I'm scared to try on clothes for fear that, even though I'm almost 20 pounds down since surgery, they'll still be snug. I'm a teacher on summer break and have pretty much been just laying around in sweats since surgery. I haven't really dressed up more than 2-3 times since surgery on the 1st. I'm scared to!
Anyone else share that fear after surgery? Or am I just nutty?

Shrink into it? What a novel and completely foreign concept.
I bought three of those dresses in different colors, plus some jewelry.
I turned a mental defeat into an NSV, and I gotta admit, it was kind of fun.

"shrink into it" -- Love that!

Been there done that! I still hate to shop and I have gone from a 22/24 to a 14. Now I do like it when I get to go down a size but my head is not caught up with my body. I had a couple of dresses in my closet from 10 years ago that I hardly wore. I went ahead and tried them on a couple of months ago and they were too tight, one more than the other. A couple weeks later I could wear one of them and then a couple weeks later I could wear the other one. I always get compliments when I where something that fits but I still feel more comfortable wearing things that don't fit because then I do not get recognized as much. It is getting better and you are not "nutty". But if I was at home like you are I would be wearing the most comfortable thing I could find. When I get home at night I still keep going to shorts that are too big. One of these days, they are going to fall off!
Before surgery, I got rid of everything that was even the slightest bit loose and arranged everything else by size. I really look forward to wearing some things that I haven't touched in a few years. I just fear a meltdown if I try something on and it's too tight. I need to just suck it up and remember that it will fit soon!
And yes, my sweats are starting to slip!

Hey fellow teacher! *waves*
Think about it like this:
If it is smaller, you were that size once. You will be that size again. It may not happen on your timetable, but it WILL happen.
That's how I look at it. I went and bought an entire WARDROBE of 22/24's knowing I would get back into that size eventually (I wear a 26/28). I was that size 20 years ago and haven't seen it in about that long, but I know I will see it again. Hopefully soon, like when school starts next month! I also know that I will be that size for a good little bit because it seems to take me a loss of about 50 pounds to go down a dress size.
Also, that's awesome that your sweats are starting to get loose! The shorts I've been wearing all summer keep slipping down. Thankfully I have some the next size down that I can wear, but maybe not for long!

Fellow teacher!! I just hope that whatever school I am in this fall (my interim position this year was filed internally, i.e. the secretary's son-in-law needed a job) will be ok with my upstyled thrift store wardrobe! I'm not willing to buy a new wardrobe every time I go down a size.
Man, I wish I had a wardrobe to work my way into like you do! I've got probably a dozen things hanging in my closet right now! That's ok though. I've started a pin board on upcycled clothes for ideas on thrift shopping!! Time to break out the sewing machine!

Try them on and try them on WEEKLY! Before you know it you'll start passing up some of your favorite "skinny" clothes without even knowing it. I'm a 14 now (down from a 2X / 20) and I went to put a pair of pants on this morning that I was afraid to try on. I bought them years ago when I lost some weight and they never fit. Well, this morning they are too big. Sad cause I'll never get to wear them. They fit in the waist but the but, hips and legs look ridiculous. Although I haven't lost much this month my body is still changing drastically. I only lost 3.5 inches from month 3 to month 4 but I can really tell I'm catching up on those inches.
That's a good point. I do have several cute things in smaller sizes that I'd be pretty annoyed if I blew past them without getting to wear them. A few of them still have tags on them from impulse "I'll-wear-this-one-day" shopping!
