Fever for how long after surgery?

I mentioned the other day that I had a low grade fever. I though and agreed with some that said it was probably just my body adjusting to the trauma. But this is day 5. I'm still running a low grade fever for 4 days straight. I have called the doctor for 2 days, no returned call yet.

So what do you all think? It isn't terrible just up to 100, but enough to make me not feel good.

I think your doctor needs to call you back!  With a low grade fever, it's probably nothing serious.  But it's going on longer than I would expect, and your doc needs to address it.

Are you drinking enough fluids?  You can be dehydrated or you can have an infection.  Either way, call your Dr.  If you have any nausea or vomiting and the fever gets higher, don't wait for the Doc to call you back, go to the ER.

I have hit my 64 oz of fluid and 70 g or protein since day 3. No nausea or vomiting at all.i fell good other than the fever making me feel run down.

Call til doctor calls you back or takes your call. I agree that a low grade fever is not normally a big concern, but you never know and you did just have surgery. You deserve care. I also agree that hydration is job one, particularly with a low grade fever involved. Sip sip sip!

i went through that!!! yep 4 days here too..kept taking tylenol then they told me stop taking it to see how high it goes, if it goes over 101 then call them...because it could be something more going on...it never went over 100.5 and i felt like CRAP..i used cold towels on my head and slept often..by the 5th day it was gone..i guess it is just our bodies working through stuff :)

I agree I feel kinda terrible with the fever. I went back to work on Monday, today half way through the day I had a 99.2 fever. 100 is the highest it has been.

I think I ran a low grade fever for at least a week after surgery.  I wouldn't worry unless it was higher and lasted longer.

Also remember a fever might not be a bad thing if it's not too high.  It's the body's way of killing an infection or bacteria.  In this case anything from the surgery.   I'd be concerned if it was 101 or higher like the other poster mentioned.

Yes make sure you are well hydrated though.  We VSGers can get dehydrated fast and easy.  Even now at 7 months post op I still have to be careful of that.  (not as much as before.)  But I just can't guzzle water like before so I have to be drinking all day long.
